DUPS 3rd National Photography Festival-2016


Photography enthusiasts of Bangladesh! Get ready to “LOOK THROUGH THE LENS” again.

Dhaka University Photographic Society (DUPS) is back with its most awaited national festival of the year. After the successful ending of the 1st and 2nd National Photography Festival DUPS is proud to present its “3rd National Photography Festival- 2016’’.

We aim to unite the innovative newcomers as well as professionals who will lead the eyes of thousands of spectators on a quest for beauty and truth, exposing their souls with tales of reality, mood & sign under a common platform.
DUPS believes in exploring all the talents from their own visual perspectives.

Last Date of Submission: 12 July, 2016 (23:59:59 BD Local Time)

Who Can Participate:

Submission is open to all Bangladeshi photographers through the following Groups:

Group A: School and College students.
Group B: University Students.
Group C: Professional Photographers.
Group E: Photo story / Series.
Group D: Only for DUPS members.


Group A: School and College students
All Students of schools and colleges can participate.

Category: The way you see.
-Each student can submit maximum 5 photographs
-30 selected photographs will be exhibited from this group
-2 best photographs will be awarded

Group B: University Students
All students of university level (including National University & Medical Colleges) around Bangladesh can participate in this group.

1. Abstract and Conceptual (manipulation is allowed)
2. Decisive moment
3. Street
-Each student can submit maximum 5 photographs
-40 selected photographs will be exhibited
-Best 3 photographs will be awarded

Group C: Professionals
Any photographer who thinks himself/herself a professional (no age or educational limits) can participate in this group.

1. Mood (any photograph that reflects a certain mood will be acceptable. It can be the mood of people, animals, nature etc. Anything you can think relating mood.)
2. Sign (A sign is an object, quality, event, or entity whose presence or occurrence indicates the probable presence or occurrence of something else. It’s your freedom to explore signs through photographs).
3. Positive Bangladesh
-Each participant can submit maximum 5 photographs (from all categories)
-40 selected photographs will be exhibited
-Best 3 photographs will be awarded

Group E: Photo story / Series
Anyone can participate in this group.
-The theme for this group is ‘Open’
-Each participant can submit maximum 2 entries
-5 selected stories/series will be exhibited
-1 story/Series will be awarded



01. Each participant can submit in maximum 2 groups. One is from Group A/B/C and the other is Group E.
02. Each participant can submit a maximum of 5 photographs from their group in terms of single photographs and in case of series/story each participant can submit minimum 5 to maximum 8 photographs.
03. Submission of photographs exhibited previously in any national exhibition will be disqualified.
04. Both color and B&W photographs are allowed.
05. Only minor burning, dodging and color correction is acceptable. No Borders/ Watermarks/ Signatures/ logos are allowed.
06. Manipulation is strictly prohibited (Except Abstract and Conceptual category of Group B).
07. Only digital submission is allowed. Photographs have to be submitted through the following emails-

09. The .doc File:
The email must contain a .doc file with the required information:
• Participant’s name
• School name/College name/University name/Etc (For professionals)
• Address
• Contact number
• Email address
• Number of Photographs submitted.
• Description for Photo story/Series.

10. Subject of the e-mail will be: Facebook ID(or Full name)_contact number.
Example: Estiak tusar_0176*******

11. Entries must be in jpg or jpeg format and file size can be maximum 4 MB. Larger files above 4MB will not be accepted.


Registration Procedure:
Selected photographers will have to submit a registration fee for exhibition.
The registration fees are
Group A–820 tk (Per Photograph)
Group B-1,020 tk (Per Photograph)
Group C-1,220 tk (Per Photograph)
Group E-2,550 tk (Per Photo Series/Story)


Exhibition Calendar:
Submission timeline: 14 June – 12 July 2016.
Judgment Date:19 July 2016.
Exhibition: 29 July – 02 August 2016.
Opening ceremony: 10am, 29th July 2016.
Closing ceremony: 6pm, 02 August 2016.

Venue: Gallery 5 & 6, Jatiya Chitrashala, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Winner, first runner-up and second runner-up selected from each of all the different categories will be awarded with a crest, t-shirt, souvenir, prize money and a certificate. And selected photographers will also get a t-shirt, souvenir, certificate and the framed photo.


Terms and Conditions:
*The photograph must be the sole work of the entrant. By entering, the entrant confirms that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, and claim in the photograph.

*The photograph must not contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.

*Photographers will be notified about registration process, fees and deadlines after the result is published. If any ‘selected’ photographer fails to complete the registration process within the registration deadline his/her photograph(s) will be disqualified.

* Incase of selling exhibited photographs the percentage between photographers and DUPS will be 50/50.
* DUPS holds the right to examine the authenticity of the photograph/source material in order to confirm compliance with these rules.

*DUPS can use the submitted photographs for promotional activities, but DUPS will not use any photograph for business purpose.

Opening Ceremony of DUPS 8th Annual Photography Exhibition 2016

In the development of the field of photography in Bangladesh, Dhaka University Photographic Society (DUPS) has always been active. Throughout the year this organization tries to develop the quality and visual aspects of the young photographers by arranging various photography related programs. Maintaining it creativity DUPS is organizing its 8th Annual Photography Exhibition ‘’EXPLORING THE IMAGINATION’’. Selected photographs of the members of DUPS will be exhibited in this exhibition. Judgment of this photography exhibition was done by Abir Abdullah (Photographer- European Press Photo, Bangladesh Bureau) and Photographer Syed Latif Hossain.

In total 64 single photographs out of which 13 photographs are from the INDIA TOUR of by DUPS and 5 photo stories are going to be exhibited in the exhibition. Each participant is going to get a t-shirt, certificate, souvenir and crest.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the honorable vice chancellor of University of Dhaka Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique.

The exhibition will go on from 9-11 February 2016 everyday from 3 pm to 8 pm. Beside this photography exhibition, there will also be other programs like culb adda, photo talk, workshop. The exhibition is open for all.
